Browning's summer guide to motoring

To avoid overheating this summer, there are a few simple steps you can take before the temperatures rise:

  • Book your car in for an aircon re-gas or aircon service today to ensure you can enjoy cool, dust, and pollen-free air.
  • Regularly check the engine coolant to prevent overheating.
  • Keep your screen wash topped up to maintain clean windows while driving.
  • Always have a pair of sunglasses handy in the car for comfortable driving from the beaming sun.
  • Additionally, it's not just the car that can overheat. Keep yourself, kids, and pets cool this summer by having plenty of drinking water available in your vehicle.

How do I know if my car needs an aircon re-gas?

The first sign that your air-con needs re-gassing is that the air being blown from the vents is not as cool as it used to be, or it doesn’t feel any different when the AC is switched off.

If you can’t remember the last time the system was re-gassed, it’s probably worth doing. Alternatively, here at browning we are happy to perform a free health check to see.

What does an Aircon Re-Gas entail?

Aircon re-gassing involves removing the old refrigerant gas from your air conditioning system and replacing it with new refrigerant gas, ensuring your aircon runs cold again. This should be your first step if your aircon system isn't blowing as cold as it should. At Browning, a free vehicle health check is included with your re-gas service.

Each step an aircon re-gas involves:

  • Refrigerant Removal: The old refrigerant gas is safely extracted from the air conditioning system.
  • Vacuum Test: The system is placed under a vacuum to remove any moisture and check for leaks. This helps ensure there are no air or water contaminants in the system.
  • Refrigerant Refill: New refrigerant gas is added to the system to the manufacturer’s specified level. This is essential for the aircon to blow cold air efficiently.
  • Oil is Topped: The system’s compressor oil is topped up to ensure smooth operation and to protect the compressor from wear and tear.
  • Performance Check: The system is tested to ensure it is cooling effectively, with proper pressure levels and no unusual noises or leaks.
  • Final Inspection: All components are checked to ensure everything is functioning correctly after the re-gas process.

What is an Aircon Service?

An aircon service ensures that your car’s air conditioning system is cooling efficiently while providing clean, fresh air, thereby improving overall comfort and air quality in the vehicle.

A car air conditioning service typically includes:

  • System Inspection: Checking the aircon system for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks.
  • Refrigerant Check: Measuring the level of refrigerant gas and topping it up if necessary. This differs from a re-gas, which involves completely replacing the old refrigerant.
  • Filter Maintenance: Replacing or cleaning the cabin air filter to ensure clean air circulation, free from dust and pollen.
  • System Cleaning: Removing any accumulated debris, mold, or bacteria from the air conditioning system, which can affect air quality and performance.
  • Performance Test: Running the system to ensure it is cooling effectively and to check for any unusual noises or odors.
  • Electrical Inspection: Inspecting the electrical components and connections to ensure they are functioning correctly.
